Footsteps Have you ever thought that you were facing life with only half an education? You know what you want out of life, but you don’t know how to get it. You know relationships are the building blocks of life, but you can’t seem to create the ones that support and empower your’s. You see the abundance of life all around you, but don’t seem to see it in your own? You aren’t alone. In fact, most people have only received half the education they need to truly embrace all of life’s gifts. We have gone to school and learned about the physical world we live in; the forms, shapes and the structure. We have been given vast amounts of information, which have been passed down through the ages, and recorded and distributed to the masses. We have been taught communication skills and social values; the tools we need to function in modern society, but it is not enough. Over the centuries, traditional formal education has provided the tools to function in life, but little more. By the late 1800’s in the United States, it became painfully clear that we had to find a new way of thinking and a new way of looking at the world around us. In the decade after the Civil War, America fell into distressing economic times. The war had taken a heavy toll on production, and the country was burdened with the psychological weight of having sent more than 600,000 soldiers to their deaths at the hands of fellow Americans. The nation was in need of a way for individuals to take control of their lives, to create a society renewed in its sense of destiny, and to provide a vision of a positive future. The challenge was met by a group of visionary thinkers including Ralph Waldo Emerson and H. David Thoreau who were instrumental in creating the Transcendentalist Movement. The movement continued to evolve into the early 20th century, embracing scientific studies, spiritual principles, and the profound discovery that our world is in a constant state of change directed by our very thinking. The modern Metaphysical Movement was born. It was a way of thinking uniting the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of life in a way that we could use to create change. By the 1920’s, Ernest Holmes had created The Science of Mind, which synthesized and brought together the teachings of the ages, the discoveries of today, and the wisdom of ancient spiritual practices. His powerful, all inclusive Science of Mind philosophy has continued to grow and evolve, touching powerful and influential people, such as Norman Vincent Peale, Jean Houston, and others. Noted Science of Mind student and author, Willis H. Kinnear once wrote, “The new science of Life of a necessity must unite science, philosophy, and religion, the only sources from which man has gathered knowledge; and in so doing creates a broader and deeper outlook on life–one that includes a much vaster territory than the world has been accustomed to.” You can experience this same transformation in your thinking and in your life. These same courses are available today through The Denver Church of Religious Science at the Ralph Waldo Emerson Center. Many students of “Foundations,” the entry level study in Science of Mind, have said it was one of the most powerful and transforming classes they have ever experienced. Others continue on to deepen their studies through advanced courses, such as “Spiritual Practices,” “Treatment & Meditation,” and “Roots.” Others may choose to spend years in study to become a Licensed Practitioner. Science of Mind classes start the week of September 12th. Consider completing your education and empowering your life, so this will be your year to experience all that life has to offer. – Rev. Jim |
