A Religious Science church is a place where two things happen: people are taught about a Divine Presence and a Universal Law that reacts to It; and people are taught how to use It. That’s all. We have nothing else to sell.

CINEMA FOR THE SOUL PRESENTS...

Canvas

Friday, July 18th
7:30 pm to 10:00 pm
Sanctuary Theatre

Film critic Roger Ebert calls Canvas “a serious film about mental illness and a sentimental heart warmer. It tells the story of a 10-year old whose mother is schizophrenic, and whose father is loyal and loving but stretched almost beyond his endurance.” Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden and Emmy Award winner Joe Pantoliano star along with 11 year-old newcomer Devon Gearhart in this powerful and confident debut feature drama from writer/director Joseph Greco. Inspired by a true story, this critically acclaimed and award winning film about a family coping with mental illness is as full of hope and humor as it is heartbreaking performances.

Celebrating Our Freedom

Dearest Friends…

July is the time we celebrate our freedoms, in all their forms and with all their power. Starting with Independence Day on July 4th, when we recognize the freedoms we embrace in this country, the celebration extends through Sunday, July 20th with our Annual Church Meeting. There, we will celebrate the freedom to set our intentions and direction for this wonderful spiritual organization, as well as the wonderful freedoms we have as individuals.

The greatest of all freedoms, without a doubt, is our freedom to change our minds. This freedom allows us to embrace a new spirituality different from the religious traditions set down through the generations, to welcome values and intentions which serve us better than those of our forefathers, and even to change the way we did things yesterday. God, by whatever name we wish to call It, has given us a freedom to create and change in ways not available to other forms of life. What power and what responsibility we each possess, the ability to change and move beyond all past perceived limitations.

During this month of freedom, I invite each of you, as individuals possessing the mystic power to vision and change, and as part of a community dedicating itself to transformation, to look deeply into the power of your mind, your spirit, and your actions. While not judging what was created in the past, what do we have the freedom to change to make this a better world for everyone? This is the foundation of our “Global Heart Vision” we embrace as part of the United Centers of Spiritual Living, and the gift we celebrate this month.

Blessings, in all ways!!!

Let Freedom Ring...

Hello Ones,

Let freedom ring! That’s how July feels to me. But, the freedom I’m working on is slightly different from what you’d expect. I’m talking about freedom within the mind.

Remember the “crazy uncle”? He’s the one who thinks he’s in charge instead of you . He is never in the present moment, but always reviewing the past or worrying non-stop about the future. No matter where you are, he is running these numbers–even in a most beautiful spot of nature. He doesn’t let you pay attention to what you’re doing, even at work. It’s called “wool gathering”, or even being on “auto pilot”.

But it’s not hard to give him notice. Just you notice what’s going on, that’s all it takes. When you witness what’s going on, you can gently move yourself into the present moment. Look around you, see where you are and what you’re doing.

It’s not hard if you make a commitment to keep noticing. You’ll find the present moment can be full of beauty, and interest, and even fun. You certainly are more alive!

So, let freedom ring!

Blessings,
Rev. Barbara,
Assistant Minister

Freedom to Love and Be Loved

Dear Friends:

Freedom . . . Freedom . . . Freedom . . .

Swallowing a tear, feeling a lump in the throat, or being unable to speak. Have you ever had that experience during a patriotic moment? Our national anthem is the one song that my father always declared he couldn’t get through without crying. I’m sure he’s not the only one. And I’m sure he passed that sentimentality on to me.

HBO recently aired an original series entitled, John Adams. I highly recommend it. It’s a wonderful re-enactment of the formation of this country through the deepest conviction about freedom that many of our founding fathers held. After all these years, we are still evolving as a nation and as a human race to be truly free.

As I have worked and prayed and played to practice Oneness in my life, I have come to believe the practice of Oneness holds for us the true experience of freedom. It’s a simple concept, but not always that easy to practice. If I am truly connected to all things, then any judgment, anger or resentment that I hold for anything outside of myself just lives within me. Working to love all, including myself, can really set me free. In this freedom, I am more able to accept the things I cannot change and change the things I can.

Philosopher and teacher Ernest Holmes tells us that “the more we realize that everything is a part of the One (that which we call God,) the more we experience love.” I would add “the more we experience freedom”. May we work to release the fears that keep us from being free. .May our lives be a demonstration of the freedom to love and be loved.

Sincerely,
Rev. Mary Jo

MUSIC BEYOND WORDS
“Great News for Fans of “Music Beyond Words.” For many years, Denver Church of Religious Science has sponsored “Music Beyond Words,” a unique Sunday morning music program which was originally broadcast on 97.5 FM and then moved to Smooth Jazz 104.3 FM a few years ago.

Music Beyond Words” gained a huge following because of its unique blend of calming new age and contemporary music expertly presented by the show’s creator and producer, Marie Michaels. An  ongoing special element of the show was its hourly “Thought for the Day” created and presented by our own Rev. Jim Chandler.

Good news!  Using the internet and today's technology you can listen to “Music Beyond Words” any time of the day or night, any day of the week, from any location around the globe.  Think of it!  You can now have the perfect music for meditation, calming the atmosphere at work, setting the mood at dinner, entertaining for special occasions; instantly available any time you are called by Spirit.

To access and get more information about this new subscription service providing anytime, anywhere music access, go to:

www.MusicBeyondWords.com.

And yes, in a short time, Rev. Jim’s inspirational thoughts will again be a part of the programming.
