August a Time of Change! In our culture, it has become a time-honored tradition that most people take their vacations in summer. I’m not sure where this started—perhaps during the time before air-conditioning when it was far too hot to work during the summer—but summer vacations have become an American way of life. It is interesting how we accept things as fact in life, just because that is the way things have always been. Sometimes this is good: accepting that you will stop at a red traffic light and can move on a green is a good tradition to accept. There is absolutely no compelling reason to change that now. Summer vacations probably started when we were in school, or had children in school, but once that restriction was removed, have you ever considered vacationing during the “low” seasons of fall or spring? It is so easy to get into ruts in life, in our jobs, in our relationships, in our spiritual beliefs, even in the way we do church. For the past eight years, we have always followed our summer break with an “Adventure In Faith” program which started in the first couple of weeks of September. It’s been a great tradition which served us well, but soon it becomes routine, and we need a change—let alone a break for our wonderful Practitioners who every year host the Adventure In Faith discussion groups. So this year we are going to make a change, a break with tradition. This year, with the opening of our new Teaching Center on the second floor of the Emerson Center, we are inviting you to join in on one of the specialized workshops or classes we are offering this fall, and create your own Adventure in Faith in a specialized area of development which empowers your personal path. We have some great new workshops such as: “Your Voice! Your Message!” to develop your speaking voice; “Beyond The Four Agreements” to find a new way to face challenges and opportunities in life; “Life Focus,” to create personal space in your daily life; and “Five Wishes,” to finally put in writing your end of life wishes. Lillie Lee will also be presenting her “Self Esteem” class, and we will be offering a wide variety of UCRS Certificated Classes, including “Foundations”, “Self Mastery”, and year 1 & II Practitioner studies. We encourage you to choose a specialized workshop, or course of study, which is tailored to your personal journey, and let us empower your journey with new life and understanding. Breaking out of tradition, and trying something new, isn’t that what true living is all about? |
